NOW PLAYING: "An Old Tale"
Music by David Majzlin (ASCAP)
Lyrics by William Shakespeare, arr. David Majzlin
BACK
A shepherd found an only child
The King and Camillo stared and sighed
With notes of admiration.
The jewels from Queen Hermione
Proclaimed her with all certainty,
To be the King's affection.
The Oracle
Has been fullfilled.
The King's lost daughter has been found.
Such a deed of wonder
Is broken out this hour!
Its like an old, old tale
An old, old tale.
"Mother, mother forgive me!"
Is what the King cried tearily,
Then thanked the shepherd
For his care.
But poor Antigonus carried the child
And was fated to the savage wild,
And torn to pieces by a bear.
The Oracle
Has been fullfilled.
Though Paulina lost her husband.
When she confessed the Queens death,
The woe was universal!
As if an old, old tale
An old old tale.
That rare Italian master, Julio Romano,
Performed a statue of the late Queen.
Paulina kept it safe in her home
And finally it would be seen.
